Strandir magical place

The magnificent and magical Strandir in the Westfjords

Strandir is a magical place. On this Strandir Adventure tour, you will get acquainted with the most remote part of Iceland. Even amongst Icelanders the Westfjords are known for their magnificent scenery and tranquillity.

From Reykjavik to Strandir

We start early on this tour to the magical Strandir. We will be driving from Reykjavik to the small town of Holmavik at Strandir county. This town is the largest settlement in Strandir and serves as a center of commerce for the county. Here you also find the museum of Icelandic Sorcery and Witchcraft.

Witchcraft, magic and Supernatural

Strandir is an area with an exciting and tragic history of witchcraft witch-hunting and sorcery. In other words, we will be heading into the mystical world of the supernatural.
Here you also find the museum of Icelandic Sorcery and Witchcraft.

From Holmavik to Steingrímsfjörður

From Holmavik we drive along the coastline of Steingrimsfjordur where we frequently see the majestic Humpback Whales at play in the Fjord. Strandir is a magical place.

Arriving at magical Djúpavík

Some 70 kilometers from Holmavik we arrive at the magical, ghostlike village of Djúpavík. Hundreds of people lived here in the golden “herring” age. The abandoned factory along with the rusted remains of Ms. Sudurland brings you back in time and gives you an idea of how remote this place truly is.

Krossaneslaug. Geothermal swimingpool

Strandir magical place. Just north of Djúpavík, we will dip our toes into the Krossaneslaug swimming pool. This poll is arguably one of the most remote man-made swimming pools in the world. Here you can relax in the comfortably warm pool while watching the roaring waves of the North Atlantic.>
