The National Park of Snæfellsnes is known for it‘s beauty and versatile landscape. Pobably the most photogenic mountain in Iceland is Kirkjufell (Church Mountain). We will be stoping in the perfect spot to be able to view and photograph this spectacularly shaped mountain.
On this route we will explore the National park of Snæfellsnes Peninsula, driving through lava fields along the coast and there will be many classic Icelandic photo opportunities on our way. We will make sure to visit most popular sites at the national park such as Arnarstapi and Djúpalónssand and go to the beautiful mountain Kirkjufell. Whether you are interested in bird life, black beaches, glaciers or history, you have come to the right place.

Snæfellsjökull (Snæfellsnes Glacier)

From all angles of the tour you will be under an influence of the magnificent Snæfellsjökull glacier (1446 m or 4.740 ft) . The glacier is believed to have supernatural powers. Some believe it is one of the seven chakras in the world.
Snæfellsnes glacier is an active volcano which rises 1446 m above sea level. It has been an inspiration to many poets and writers such as
Juels Vern and our Nobel prize winner Halldór Laxness. Some believe it is one of the seven chakras in the world.
We will be hiking around beautiful old fishing village Arnarstapi. On our way we will enjoy the scenery, the magnificent lava formations, striking cliffs and gorgeous, rock formations, and breathing in the sea breeze is quite memorable. Good idea to have fish and chips here for lunch.

Arnarstapi village

The old fishing village of Arnarstapi gives you a glimpse in to the age old culture of Iceland. It is surrounded by unique bird cliffs where thousands of seaguls and other birds nest in the spring time

As we continue our journey we will see Lóndranga which are two Uniquely formed basalt columns The taller one measures 75 meters in height, and the lower stack rises to 61 meters. Then we stop at Djúpalónsandur, a black pearl beach. There we find four large, ‘lifting stones’, once used to measure the strength of fishermen, Fully Strong 154 kg, Half-Strong 100 kg, Weakling 54 kg and Bungler 23 kg. If a man wasn´t able to lift Weakling he was not strong enough to be a fisherman.

Djúpalóns sandur beach

The black sand beach of Djúpalóns sandur and the lava formations around the shore is by many considered a unique piece of natural art. The amazing history of the place compliments the spectacular and powerful nature you will perceive.
